                                  A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, John Tallen has passed away. He was husband to former Minister of Science and Technology, Pauline Tallen. The politician reportedly died Tuesday morning in Abuja. He had battled an undisclosed illness.

A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 30-year-old businessman, Lawan Zubairu, in prison over alleged rape of 11-year-old set of twins.                              Zubairu, who lives at Hotoron Fulani Quarters, Kano, is facing a charge of rape to which he pleaded not guilty.

Mother of Stephanie Otobo, the alleged girlfriend of Apostle Johnson Suleman of the Omega Fire Ministries, has said she has not seen her daughter in the last three years, noting that her daughter ”is not normal.” This is coming after Ms. Otobo, a Canadian-based Nigerian singer accused the fiery preacher of impregnating and abandoning her after he promised to marry her.  Following her initial allegation against the preacher, the singer had continued to release more intimidating details about her alleged romance with Suleman.

The Lagos State Police has released an official statement, disclosing why the lady who was rescued today from jumping into the Lagos Lagoon by 11:25a.m wanted to do it.                                     The statement reads, “Shortly after the report of Mrs. Abigael Ogunyinka who was rescued by fishermen in Lagos Lagoon early Friday morning, another woman was today prevented at about 11:25 a.m from leaping into the Lagoon by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos state Police Command.

Mrs. Bisola Olukoya has been arrested by officers of the Ogun State Police command, for reportedly beating her son Toheeb Olukoya, to death. It was gathered that the lady used a plank to beat her son, who slumped and died almost immediately. The value of the Dollar continued to diminish against the Naira as the Nigerian currency was traded at N390 on Thursday in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Naira had also appreciated against the Euro, exchanging at N400 while remaining stable against the Pound Sterling at N465. The last time the naira traded at between N390 and N400 to the dollar at the parallel market was in August 2016.

Nigeria has launched an online system aimed at enabling business executives to apply for a visa online and collect it on arrival 48 hours later, its immigration service said on Thursday.                                         The move to ease visa rules in the West African country follows complaints from foreign executives that obstructive embassy officials made it difficult to enter the country. Under the new system, travellers must register with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) and provide details including travel document information, after which a letter of approval may be issued and the visa collected on arrival.

 The Nigerian Navy on Thursday deployed three warships and a helicopter in a joint multinational maritime exercise comprising 29 foreign Navies. James Oluwole, rear admiral and commander, Task Group 17.1, flagged-off the exercise tagged: “Obangame Express 2017” in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers.

Peruvian police have announced that they have intercepted 1,417kg of cocaine on Wednesday. The substance was packaged with images of Barcelona star, Lionel Messi.                                      The packaging did not only have Messi’s face plastered all over it, they also bore his name, Barcelona’s logo and the seal of the King of Spain.

A Kano Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded in prison a 28-year-old school teacher, Shamsu Nasiru, for allegedly defiling four pupils.                                                  The accused, who lives at Dawakin Dakata Quarters, Kano, is standing trial on a charge of rape.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has called on political leaders in the country to commit themselves to the collective good of the nation.                                             His spokesman, Laolu Akande, in a statement said Osinbajo spoke on Thursday when he met with a delegation from the House of Representatives in his office to discuss the economy and ways of navigating Nigeria out of recession.

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has warned members of the public that the corporation was not undertaking any recruitment, hence they should be wary of fraudsters.                                        According to a disclaimer on its website on Thursday, the corporation said unsuspecting members of the public were being lured by various means into fraudulent job interviews.

The naira appreciated significantly against the dollar on Wednesday to trade at N410 to the dollar, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. The local currency gained 20 naira to exchange at N410 to the dollar from N430 posted on Tuesday. It also firmed against the pound sterling and the Euro as it was traded at N510 to the pound and 435 to the Euro from N530 and N450, respectively.

A 30-year-old man, Frank Igwe, who allegedly used some fake naira to pay a sex worker for her services, was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos. The accused, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of unlawful possession of fake currency. The prosecutor, Ibijoke Akinpelu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 17 at about 2:00 a.m. at Standard Hotel, No. 11, Olokodana St., Bariga, Lagos.

The body of a man who jumped into Lagos Lagoon has been recovered. Allwell Orji, a medical doctor, jumped into the Lagos Lagoon Sunday evening after ordering his driver who drove him to the bridge to pull over.                                     Efforts by the various emergency management agencies to recover his body had proved abortive.

Authorities arrested three drug dealers accused of smuggling heroin in pieces of household furniture, officials said Tuesday. Cops grabbed Jorge Pizarro, 41, Nelson DeJesus, 40, and Miguel Angeles, 27, saying they tried to make an end-run around police by secreting more than 6 pounds of heroin in high-quality wooden end tables they transported from Texas and kept in a Bronx storage unit, officials said. The drugs were stashed in compartments in the tables, officials said.

      Business magnates, Aliko Dangote and Mike Adenuga have been named among the top three richest men in Africa by Forbes magazine. According to Forbes, Dangote topped the list with a net worth of $12.2 billion as at Monday, March 20th 2017; while, Adenuga ranked 3rd with $6.1 billion.

       The Commander of Military Special Task Force (STF) in Jos, Major General Rogers Ibe Nicholas, has explained why his team intercepted 213 vehicles of armed vigilantes heading to the NYSC orientation camp in Mangu for training. According to him, the vigilante groups which came from various states of the country entered Plateau state without due clearance and authorization from relevant authorities.

                                        Twenty- two traders, including a  motorcyclist, have been reportedly burnt to death in a ghastly accident that occurred at Giron Masa along Koko- Yauri road in Kebbi State. It was gathered that the incident, according to eyewitness happened, on Monday night, when a Toyota Canter vehicle tried to avoid potholes on the road that was still under reconstruction and hit a motorcyclist  in the process of dodging it and  died on the spot.

                                   A medical doctor has offered a fresh insight into the circumstances that might have led to the death of Dr Allwell Orji who jumped into a lagoon in Lagos on Sunday. The doctor, one Essien Attah, in a Facebook post noted that the unsatisfactory work conditions had driven many in the profession to a state of despondency.

Suspected Isaba militants from Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State in the early hours of today attacked and shot dead an Aladja community farmer, Mr. Kingsley Paya and carted away his corpse in Udu Local Government Area, DAILY POST is reporting. It was gathered that the armed Isaba militants led by Ebikoro and Ebiko, Operators of NUPENG Camp at Bernertt Island stormed Aladja very early in the morning, shooting sporadically into the air at a distance away from a military post.

The police in Lagos State have recovered the body of a banker, identified only as Ken, who reportedly died on top of a woman during marathon sex at a popular hotel located at NNPC junction in Ejigbo area of the state. One person has been feared killed and scores received machete cut in a clash between two rival groups of tricycle operators, popularly called Keke napep, in Ilorin, on Wednesday. The Nigerian Navy operating in the Niger Delta region has arrested eight suspected illegal oil marketers while destroying at least 30 illegal refineries in Delta state. In a series of intensified anti-crude oil theft operations, Nigerian Navy Ship NNS DELTA discovered and destroyed a total of 10 illegal refineries at a camp around Jones Creek, Warri South West LGA of Delta State. The facilities destroyed during the raid include 200 metal tanks, 35 dug pits loaded with about 3,000 metric tons (MT) of product suspected to be stolen crude oil and 1,500MT of illegally refined AGO. In a statement signed by the Acting Director of Information, Navy Captain Suleman Dahun in Abuja, a patrol team deployed by the Base arrested a suspect and destroyed a network of 6 illegal refineries around Ugbodede and Asugbo Creeks in Warri South LGA.

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) nabbed two ‘one-chance’ operators and impounded their commercial Volkswagen bus along Mile 2, Lagos. The two culprits: Chuckwudi Ezeudo of No. 1, Ezeudo Lane, off Babarin street, Ajegunle and Mr. Wilfred Ukpo of No. 1, Ajose Street, Ajegunle, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos who confessed that they have been using commercial bus to rob people around Lagos were arrested around 6pm on Tuesday with their operational vehicle, a Volkswagen commercial bus with registration number EPE 165 XS.

The Federal Government has issued a new set of directives in its bid to accelerate the implementation of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration’s new vision for the development of the Niger Delta. To this end, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, on behalf of this principal, has given all contractors including those handling Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, projects in the region a 30-day ultimatum from today to return to site or face prosecution.

United Nations Refugee Agency on Tuesday said over 2,600 refugees have been forcefully returned back to Nigeria in 2017. The UNHCR said these forceful returns have continued unabated after the governments of Nigeria and Cameroon signed a tripartite agreement with UNHCR. A statement from the UNHCR spokesperson, Babar Baloch, said Cameroonian troops returned refugees against their will, without allowing them time to collect their belongings.

Banking activities in Owo local government area of Ondo State was on Tuesday disrupted around 10.30 a.m following an attempt by suspected armed robbers to attack a commercial bank in the town. Also, the four operating banks in the four local governments of Akoko kingdom stopped operation immediately they were alerted about the robbers’ presence in Owo. Banks in the communities have always been attacked by robbers.

The lawmaker representing Orumba North/Orumba South Federal Constituency of Anambra State at the House of Representatives, Sopuluchukwu Ezeonwuka, on Monday lashed out at the Federal government over the continued detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu. Addressing journalists at Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, Awka, the Anambra State capital, the federal lawmaker stressed that government had no moral justification to continue holding Kanu in detention.

At least, four persons have been reportedly killed in a clash that erupted between the residents of Yakira community in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State and suspected herdsmen. It was alleged that the community killed three herders in retaliation to the killing of an indigene The man, whose corpse was found in his farm, had earlier reportedly complained of incessant grazing of cattle on his farm.

Petroleum Equalization Fund (Management) Board says it has blacklisted 25 oil marketers for defrauding the Nigerian Government. The fund, however, has not revealed names of the affected marketers. PEF listed theirs offences as changing of truck heads without getting clearance from the agency, tampering with tags affixed on trucks as well as presentation of trucks with water (instead of petrol) at receiving depots by these marketers.
