Police arrests killers of Edo Politician
The Edo State Police Command has arrested five suspects over the
murder of the former Chairman of Etsako East Local Government Area, Hon
Suleiman Afegbua,
He was killed last Thursday along Benin-Auchi Express Road by hoodlums who eyewitnesses alleged were armed herdsmen.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Haliru Gwandu, confirmed that
Suleiman was about fleeing the scene of the incident when he was shot
by the gunmen who thought he was about shooting at them.
He said that five persons have been arrested including informants
to the assailants, noting that one of the three persons kidnapped by the
gunmen had been rescued by his men.
Gwandu warned criminals to leave the state or face the wrath of
his untiring officers who will go the extra mile to bring law breakers
to book.
He said: “Since yesterday, (Saturday), we have started apprehending
suspects. We have arrested the syndicates who killed the Pastor, the
businesswoman and the former council chairman; we have rescued one of
the three persons that were abducted and we will not rest until the rest
two are freed.
“Five persons have been apprehended, the driver is not among the
victims or suspects. We have been able to get the informants to those
assassins and my teams are everywhere doing their best and we will
maintain that tempo to ensure that maximum success is achieved in our
investigation.
“Since I came into the state there have been changes and Edo will
continue to see changes. If we can’t stop criminals we will continue
bursting them into their hideouts. Criminals have no breathing space
here,” he declared.
Suleiman was on his way to Benin City to attend a peace and
reconciliation meeting with the governor on a lingering problem in the
community when he was killed.
